The Classical Journey: from Grammar to Rhetoric

At Beachcities Classical, we follow the classical model of education, known as the Trivium. This time-tested approach is built around three stages of learning — Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric — which align with a child’s natural development. Each stage builds upon the last, leading learners from knowledge, to understanding, to wisdom.

Grammar Stage (K-6): Building the Foundations

In the early years, children are eager to learn and naturally absorb knowledge. The Grammar Stage harnesses this enthusiasm by focusing on the “building blocks” of learning — language, facts, and skills. Through songs, stories, recitation, and hands-on activities, learners establish a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics, history, science, and Scripture.

These years are about wonder, discovery, and delight — helping learners see the beauty of God’s world and preparing them for deeper study.

Logic Stage (7-9): Developing Understanding

As learners grow, they begin to ask deeper questions and look for connections. The Logic Stage trains them not just what to think, but how to think. Through discussion, debate, and critical reasoning, learners learn to analyze information, evaluate arguments, and see God’s truth more clearly.

Here, learners are encouraged to wrestle with the “why” behind what they have learned, growing in discernment and maturity as they prepare for greater independence.

Rhetoric Stage (10-12): Communicating with Wisdom

By high school, learners are ready to express themselves with confidence and clarity. The Rhetoric Stage focuses on effective communication — writing persuasively, speaking eloquently, and presenting ideas with wisdom and grace.

This stage trains young men and women to articulate their beliefs thoughtfully and to engage the world around them as ambassadors for Christ. The ultimate goal is not only academic excellence, but the formation of individuals who think deeply, live faithfully, and lead with humility.

On Wednesdays, families enjoy the flexibility of home learning. This day allows learners to review lessons, work on assignments, and explore personal interests while giving parents an active role in their child’s education.

Monthly Community Events

Once a month, our entire community comes together outside the classroom for fellowship and hands-on experiences. These events may include museum and business tours, park or beach days, potlucks, or other family-friendly gatherings. They are a vital part of our program, strengthening relationships and bringing learning to life.
